Permafrost

Freezing,

everything around us has been buried under the softness,

the delicateness of longing for endless summers

For the memories of light, warm touches under the Sun

I ask her to hold me,

but Chione and I are not the same

For her heart is solid, and in her laugh I can hear the north wind screaming

In the end, she is the goddess, a daughter of winter itself

Be strong she whispers,

her tone crisp like the air of a winter’s night

I look up, her piercing gaze welcoming mine right in the middle

How could I be like you, when my heart has been shattered like ice

Was I once as beautiful, as bewitching as the goddess of snow,

did I possess the power to freeze wandering eyes,

Was I witty enough,

of making all creatures adore my glowing presence

Chione smiles, and on her lips I can see all the snowflakes,

this wicked world has forgotten

He lied, like all of his friends before him

And yet I wish to love, to be worshipped with flaming passion

Chione whispers, not to break the song of the wind around us,

When love cuts you dear, remember your power

Remember your thoughts, which linger in your mind as beautifully as the first snow,

Your words, which are made of the most playful winds,

Your eyes, which shine as bright as frost on water,

And your heart, which has endured more than any storm is capable of causing

Be as true as ice,

As mesmerizing as an avalanche,

But never, not in a million years,

Let those who oppose you, those who do not know the loneliness of a winter’s night

Shatter your beautiful heart any more, than you can shatter theirs
