Dreaming of things to come

You know that feeling, right?

Wishing to know what will happen to you, what will happen to us. Lying awake in bed at night, staring at the insides of your eyelids like the answer is written on them.

I can’t tell the future, no one can, but sometimes there are ways to tell.

Take a look at my questions, think about them, think about us. What would you say, what would you do?

I’ve gathered ways of fortune-telling, of laying out my life in front of us. Maybe they’ll help you see what the future holds.

  1. Tea leaves: stay by my side and share my drink, the world at the bottom of our cup looks brighter already. Did you like it?

  2. Tarot cards: guide my hand, hold up the guide for how I should spread these damn cards, get out the definitions for what these things mean, I’m confused. Why are you doing this for me?

  3. Palmistry: hold my hand in yours, trace my skin with yours. What can you tell by the warmth? The flush? The shaking?

  4. Astrology: what can you see when we look up to the stars, your shoulder pressed against mine? What does it say that you don’t point out I keep messing up the constellations?

  5. Ba-Zi: I’ll tell you my story, of when I happened. What does it mean to you? What does my birth tell of me? What does it mean that you listened?

  6. Hydromancy: if you lean closer to the lake, see the ripples over our entwined reflections, do you think you can tell our fortunes from there? They used to throw people in as well, would you try if I asked?

  7. Oneiromancy: what does it mean that you walk in my dreams, have made a home in them? You’d think you’re on my mind enough during the daytime, right? Do you?

  8. Numerology: I don’t believe in telling fortunes. I don’t think you can look at the letters in my name and calculate my fate. But I do believe in seven ways of telling our fortune, of asking you for each? Wouldn’t you think it means something, too?
