Chief Editor's Note: One Last Time

Chief Editor's Note: One Last Time

It’s been another fantabulous year at BTSB: we’ve revamped our site, put out five great issues, participated in events and had an all around great time! This was an anniversary year for us; due reason to celebrate the fact that for 10 years the English students of the university of Helsinki have kept an online paper running on a volunteer-basis.

While rummaging through our article archives, I was amazed at the progress BTSB has made. The paper began as a humours passion project of a handful of English students. And although there is still only a handful of us, and we certainly do it this for the passion, the paper has become more professionally managed and increasingly versatile in content over the years. As a publication, we hope to keep entertaining and informing our readers for another 10 years to come.

This summer issue is my last one as the chief-editor. Phew, am I so glad it’s over! You wouldn’t believe the number of nights I’ve spent tossing and turning over the future of our publication.

Just kidding, it’s been a blast!

The editorial staff has made the job very easy and thoroughly enjoyable. I’ve taken full advantage of the chief editor’s notes as medium for me to “lecture” about issues close to my heart, like the value of a humanist education, perspectives on learning, and the importance of cultural diversity.

The chief-editorship has also been an important learning opportunity for me. I’ve learned that it’s useless to fret the small stuff; things have  way of working out, and that often a little encouragement goes a long way.

All that being said, I am glad to be passing the baton over to Milla Ihalainen--a social media wizard and long-time BTSB editor. As with all prior chief-editors, she’ll bring something new to the table with her own unique skill set. I can’t wait to see the outcome!

For the summer issue, we wanted to keep it light and fun. This collection of summer reads is a perfect companion for an afternoon by a lake or an evening by a campfire. So go ahead, grab a cold drink, find a cozy spot and get reading!
